What is Private Domain Info?

PrivateDomainInfo.com is a proxy domain name registrar. Private Domain Info enables domain name holders to conceal their personal information from the public WHOIS / RDAP record by assigning each member a unique ID code along with valid alternate contact information.

Another registrar claims my PrivateDomainInfo.com protected domain no longer belongs to me. Is this true?

Other domain name registrars have employed deceptive scare tactics to try to get PDI-protected domain owners to switch registries so they will “own their domain name again.” As soon as those registrars strip you of your private PDI registration, they turn around and try to charge as much as $30 or more to turn the registration private again.

It is a sales maneuver. Do not fall for it. You still own your name when it is protected with PDI. Until those other registrars contact us to inquire about a domain name, they do not know who owns it. Private Domain Info does not own any names. We simply provide the private registration service. We are a proxy similar to GoDaddy’s Domains by Proxy.

Why should I consider private registration?

When you register a domain name, personal information associated with that name is collected for the public registration record. Anyone with a computer and an internet connection can, depending on the TLD and the registrar’s redaction policy, collect your name, address, email, phone, and fax — or enough adjacent data to reconstruct them. That access leaves you vulnerable to spammers, telemarketers, hackers, and identity thieves. A proxy registrant replaces those fields with ours.

Will Private Domain Info ever reveal my personal information?

Private Domain Info will only reveal your personal information if required by law.

Will I still own my domain name?

Yes. Because your domain names are registered through your own registrar, you retain full control of every aspect of your domains. Your most recent domain name renewal receipt (or paid invoice) from your ISP or domain registrar is your proof that you are the owner of your domain name.

Can I use my own registrar?

Yes. Unlike similar private registration services, we do not require that you use a specific registrar.

Will I have full control of my domain name?

Yes. Because your domain names are registered through your own registrar, you retain full control of every aspect of your domains.

How much does it cost?

You can maintain a Private Domain Info membership as cheaply as FREE. Check your ISP or domain registrar directly to see if there is any charge.

Will I receive email sent to my account?

It depends on the email. We will not forward any spam to your email address. We may, however, forward queries from law enforcement as required by law. Additionally, anyone can contact you by email directly using the method explained here.

Will I receive postal mail sent to my account?

Postal mail can be forwarded to you at cost. We will contact you if we receive any relevant mail including express, insured, certified, or registered parcels.

How do I contact support?

Simply contact your ISP or domain registrar. They can provide all the support you need regarding your domain name.

How do you directly contact a PDI registrant?

Domain owners registered through PDI can be contacted with a special email address as explained on the Email Domain Owners page.
